School Board: “Not So Fast” to Mosquito Lake Boiler
A September 21st Workshop is planned to explore other options

Mark Twain once quipped that the difference between the right word and the almost-right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug. At the August 16th School Board Meeting, Borough Manager Mark Earnest, speaking from the audience, admitted that the Borough administration did not get the communication quite right in the Mosquito Lake School heating situation when dealing with other Borough organizations.

HAINES — “To graduate life-long learners with the confidence, skills, and knowledge to realize their aspirations and contribute to a changing world” is the new mission statement of the Haines Borough School District. The board adopted a strategic plan, including the mission statement, at Tuesday night’s regular meeting. Read more->

Mosquito Lk. heat; Wind for schools; Strategic Plan

Should the school district spend over $250,000 on a new heating system for Mosquito Lake School? That was one issue that faced the Haines Borough School Board at last night’s meeting. The figure derives from an estimate of the cost to implement an engineer’s plan. The board expressed concern over the high cost and directed the superintendent to work with two board members and the Borough Director of Facilities to develop a Request for Proposal so that other options can be explored.
