DEC test results on paralytic shellfish poisoning
Tests show PSP levels in Dungeness crabs not a concern

JUNEAU — Following a reported case of PSP in Haines, Alaska, DEC conducted tests on crabs in that area to determine levels of paralytic shellfish poison toxin. The tested crabs were collected following the reported illness.

Haines resident Mike Saunders deceased at home
Paralytic shellfish poisoning “PSP” may have been a factor

HAINES — John Michael Saunders, age 57 of Haines was found deceased at his residence on Mud Bay Road about 5:15 this morning.  Only two days previous, Saunders had been medevaced to Juneau where he was diagnosed with Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (“PSP”) at Bartlett Regional Hospital.  Saunders had been released and returned to Haines.
